General Sir Richard Dannatt, the head of the Army, has called for more resources in Afghanistan after the Government admitted key staff shortages are undermining operations to protect troops from roadside bombs. James Kirkup reports for The Daily Telegraph.
Deaths and injuries caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are mounting and the Ministry of Defence has admitted that it does not have enough specialist surveillance personnel to monitor potential bomb attacks.
General Sir Richard Dannatt, the Chief of the General Staff, said that British forces cannot currently operate 24-hour surveillance in the most dangerous areas of Afghanistan, and called on ministers to improve coverage.
