Televised footage of medics dealing with the aftermath of the attack which left five servicemen dead in Afghanistan brought the harsh realities of war into viewers' living rooms.
Guardsman Jimmy Major, Warrant Officer first class Darren Chant, Sgt Matthew Telford, Cpl Steven Boote and Cpl Nicholas Webster-Smith were shot on Tuesday. Eight others were injured.
