US Marines have put the Taliban to flight and are moving to a tough new phase in their Afghan battle: winning over farmers. Ben Farmer reports from Marjah for The Sunday Telegraph.
Backed by a force of several thousand US Marines, Colonel Brian Christmas had fought his way into the Taliban stronghold of Marjah with mercifully few casualties.
But as he sat on a grimy straw mattress last Friday to chat to the town's newly-liberated residents, "Operation Back to School" refused to unfold quite as smoothly.
